The journey from becoming engaged to wedding day can be one of the most exciting times of your life, but it can also become a stressful and overwhelming time to many. There is so much planning and preparation that needs to be done before the big day.

Self-care is crucial during the wedding planning era of your life. By practicing self-care, you will take care of yourself on the inside and on the outside. This will ensure that you stay balanced emotionally and physically. In this post, self-care tips will be explored that are specifically tailored to brides during their wedding planning era to ensure that they look and feel their absolute best on wedding day.

Make Sleep a Priority in Your Self-Care Routine

Getting adequate sleep every night is so important to your well being. It is beneficial to your body every day, during all phases of your life, not just in the wedding planning process.

Not getting enough sleep can lead to stress and exhaustion over time. It can also promote bad habits and encourage mood swings to take over.

Figure out what works best for you and establish a bedtime routine. Be sure to eliminate blue light from your phone, computer, and television at least an hour before you plan on going to sleep.

Make sure you are physically laying down in bed for the proper amount of time. Don’t wait until you feel tired enough to go to bed. Make it a priority to lay down in bed at the same time every night. Being in bed for the proper amount of time can help with your sleep routine and trick your body into falling asleep.

Consider relaxation self-care techniques to help with your sleep such as meditating or taking a warm bath before climbing in bed. Reading can also help relax the muscles, the brain, and the eyes. You also may fall in love with reading a certain genre and learn something along the way – it’s a win-win!

Eating Well & Staying Hydrated

This is the perfect time in your life to establish healthy eating habits. Many brides wish to drop a few pounds to fit into their wedding dress.

Many people are unaware of how an unbalanced diet makes them feel. Symptoms of an unbalanced diet include fatigue, oily or blemished skin, and gastrointestinal problems to name a few.

Once people begin to eat healthier, they will soon realize how eating healthy, real foods makes their body feel good. The trick here is to establish lifestyle changes, and not simply be on a diet. Diet culture is much more harsh and not easily maintained. Start with small changes to your daily eating habits.

Look for simple healthy swaps you can make on foods that you already eat daily. Perhaps a simple swap of a frozen greek yogurt bar instead of ice cream, veggie chips instead of potato chips, regular coffee instead of a fancy latte.

Hydration is supremely important for self-care. Purchase a cute water bottle with a straw that you love carrying around. You are more bound to drink water if you have one on hand. Aim to drink half of your body weight in ounces per day.

Avoid substituting food or eating with excessive caffeine or sugary drinks. This can lead to energy crashes and can also add sneaky calories to your daily intake.

Body Movement & Exercise

One of the easiest things you can do for self-care and both mental and physical health is to move your body.

If you are not an avid exerciser, find something easy that you enjoy to start. Something as simple for going for ten minute walks can impact your life significantly. If you get bored on your walk, consider phoning a friend or listening to a podcast to make the time go by.

Create a weekly or monthly calendar of fitness goals for yourself. Start small and increase with time. Soon, you’ll be able to look at how far you’ve come!

If walking is not your style, search youtube for easy home workouts. There are so many free workout videos on youtube to choose from. They range from easy to difficult. There is a workout for everyone, you really just need to start.

Spa and Beauty Appointments

Treat yourself! Now is the time to pamper and relax yourself in the months leading up to your wedding.

Get a facial or a massage to calm your nerves and relieve some of the wedding planning stress. These types of treatments can get expensive, so try to limit yourself to a few appointments within your wedding planning timeline to keep your budget under control.

Manicures and pedicures are another great way to provide self-care. Make an appointment with a friend so that you have someone to chat with while you are getting your nails done. After all, people are always asking to look at your engagement ring, better make sure your nails look good!

Self-Care Mindfulness and Meditation

Practicing mindfulness, meditation, and gratitude is a free and easy way to practice self-care.

If you are unfamiliar with mindfulness and meditation, there are plenty of free YouTube videos or podcasts that you can listen to at your preferred time of day to allow your body to relax. Find a program that you like. The best thing about using YouTube or podcasts is that you are able to try multiple programs at no cost to find one that you relate to.

Practicing gratitude is another free way to promote self-care. All you need is a journal, notebook, piece of paper, or your phone to practice gratitude. Search the internet for free gratitude prompts to get you started.

By making these things a part of your daily routine, even if it is for just a few minutes, you will be able to reduce stress and anxiety and make a significant difference in your overall well-being.

Delegate Wedding  Responsibilities

The hardest part of planning a wedding can be the ability to step back and allow others to help you. Please do not try to do everything by yourself. Even though we know you are a superwoman, your fiance can handle some responsibility.

Delegate some tasks to your fiancé. Think of their strengths and what they are good at and allow them to be a part of the wedding planning process. I had my fiance handle planning our limo transportation, booking the hotel room block, and booking the shuttle bus to and from the hotel to the venue. I personally hate talking on the phone, while he doesn’t mind talking on the phone, so this was easy for me to delegate.

Reach out to trusted friends or family and allow them to help as well. The worst they can say is no, but I am willing to bet that they would be happy to help.

If your budget allows, consider hiring a wedding planner. This will alleviate a lot of responsibility and stress for both you and your fiance.

Schedule Time For Yourself

Set aside a few minutes a day to take some time to yourself away from your busy schedule.

This personal time could involve going to the gym, going for a walk, or enjoying something you love such as reading a book.

Taking some breaks and enjoying yourself, even if for a short time, will help you recharge and not become overwhelmed.

Set aside time for yourself during your busy schedule. Whether it’s a solo walk, reading a book, or enjoying a favorite hobby, taking breaks will help you recharge.

Spend Time With Those You Love

A commonly overlooked form of self-care is to spend time with loved ones. These loved ones may be close friends, distant friends, or family members.

By hanging out and doing special things with your friends and family, you will be reminded of how much love and support you have.

The topics of conversation will likely be around your wedding planning obstacles, but try to focus on the good things that are happening. It can be a way for you to vent and de-stress about the wedding planning process, but you also need to make sure you are present in the moment and enjoying your time together.

In conclusion, self-care should always be top of mind in your daily routine, but it should be of special importance during your wedding planning era. Taking care of yourself during this time will ensure that you look and feel your absolute best on wedding day.

Remind yourself of your beautiful life and love that you have in this moment by practicing positive self-talk and self-care. Remember, you deserve to enjoy every moment in your wedding planning journey. By practicing self-care, you’ll radiate happiness from the inside to the outside.
